Online Tool for Holidays Entitlements

  Use this tool to:

About this tool The online Tool for Holidays Entitlements provides guidance on:

  • Whether an employee is entitled to a paid public holiday, sick day or bereavement leave day (that is, whether the day would "otherwise be a working day" for an employee)
  • What an employee should be paid (that is, their "relevant daily pay" for their day off or for working on a public holiday)

The tool covers entitlements in the Holidays Act 2003, not those in employment agreements.

This tool has been developed in discussion with employer groups, unions and payroll providers. It will be of particular help for employers and employees with complex work arrangements. It does not cover independent contractors. For more information on minimum statutory entitlements see The Department of Labour Minimum Statutory Entitlements FACT sheet. For further information on independent contractors see The Department of Labour Independent Contractors FACT Sheet
